What a week

I had one of those weeks this week. Had a shoot in Flagstaff, Sedona, and Prescott, all in Arizona, Then hopped over to San Diego and Los Angeles to shoot a couple hotels. Drove about 1500 miles total. Toss in a shoot here in Tucson today, over closer to the east side of the state tomorrow, and I'd say we had a pretty packed week. And, I realize I'm sitting here smiling as I type this. I love it! At any rate, here's a couple from the hotel shoot.

I had a fun shoot this week. Created some imagery for Xventure, a division of Schutt Industries. After two days of scouting locations in a lot of great open country, we settled on three locations. One outside Flagstaff, AZ, Sedona, and Prescott. So we spent the day of the shoot bouncing around the beautiful country of Northern Arizona. It was great. These are a couple of the shots we got.

Variety is the spice of life, right?

We had a crazy weekend. These are just a few of the images we created in the last 72 hours. Christy and I were running around like crazy 18 hours a day. Man, I love what we do for a living.

We got to shoot something I've never shot before. Photographed about 20 different Ikebana pieces. It's a pretty cool art form, appeals to the Zen side of me. These are just two of the pieces.

Shana Levenson

Went over to Albuquerque, NM yesterday to photograph a really incredible artist. I love her paintings. You can check out her work at shanalevenson.com. These are a couple of my favorite images from the shoot.

Afghan Hounds

For the last 30 years or so I've wanted to photograph Afghans. I finally got the chance yesterday. I love the look of these dogs. They look so elegant to me. Turns out, they're pretty goofy. But, it was really fun to finally get to hang out with some of them. These are just a few of the images we created.

Wandering in the desert

I had a day off so I grabbed my camera and headed into the desert again. I feel at home in nature, if that makes sense. I've probably hiked a few thousand miles over the years from the Cascades, the Sierra's, Colorado, and all over Arizona. I feel at home when I'm in the middle of no place. Anyway, I grabbed a few images the other day I wanted to share.

Nature to the rescue

Sometimes I just have to get away from it all and take a walk. I'm sure a lot of you know what I mean. When those times come along I head out into nature to clear my mind. Of course, the thought of leaving my camera behind is not even conceivable, so...

Substance Design Consortium

Had a nice little shoot last night at a very cool building in Tucson. The primary architects were Donna Barry and Jose Pombo, now with Substance Design Consortium. I love their work, so when we got a chance to shoot at one of their buildings I couldn't wait to get there.

Anyway, this is just one shot of the building from the evening. The performances were great, too.

Another Tucson Museum of Art event

This event was fun. I got to play a bit with available light and toss in a small amount of off camera flash, all the while capturing the event as it unfolded. To be honest, capturing an image as opposed to creating one is usually not what i do. But it was a lot of fun to try to combine the two approaches and see what I got.

Fashion Event at the Tucson Museum of Art

From time to time we donate our services to the Tucson Museum of Art and cover an event, an opening, or what ever they may need. Last night they had a really fun fashion event. We had a great time mingling and shooting. It's very hard to consider what we do for a living as work at any time. But last night was just plain fun.

While we only shot with on camera flash and didn't really have the time to "get fancy", I did capture a couple shots of two of the hair models who were there. I really miss shooting fashion and it was fun to get at least this close to "the old days".

I've said it before, and I'll keep on saying it. There's just nothing quite as nice as a good, clean head shot. I love capturing the light that's in everyone's eyes. That little spark that makes them, them. Ya know what I mean?

Too cute

What I do for a living is always fun, but, sometimes, it's even more fun that usual. I donated some time to my friend Mary who runs the Maricopa County Animal Care Facility to photograph Stella. She's going to be featured on a van wrap for the Facility (Stella, not Mary). Stella was a complete ham in front of the camera. We had a great time.

Just for fun

I donated a couple hours to photograph a really great group of kids. They're a local jazz band... Well, actually, they're based locally, but they've traveled internationally and won about a million awards for their music.

Since it was a gig for the fun of it, I got to play with my post production. I gave the images a feel that I thought felt like a smoky, dark, jazz bar, like the one's I used to go to in Chicago.

You can learn more about them here: http://www.tucsonjazzinstitute.org/

Byron Browne Law Group

Okay, now this was a great shoot. I actually shot this a couple months ago, but I had to wait until the campaign went live before I could post anything. This guy was great, we had a ball. For the last shot here we build an entire lawyer's office in the studio. These are just a few of the images we created that day.

Building a menu

We (Jess Suworoff and I) spent all day yesterday shooting food for a restaurant that will be opening soon up in the Phoenix area. Jess is probably the best food stylist I've ever worked with, which makes this sort of shoot a pleasure. The client, another Frank, was great, too. All in all, a very nice shoot.

Once in awhile I get someone in front of my camera and it's magic. Everything just clicks. I love it when that happens. Alyson and I have done a few commercial shoots together, but this was the first time we got to relax and play a bit. I'm lovin' what came out of the session.

Tasting Panel Magazine

Nice little shoot for Tasting Panel Magazine. Photographed Aaron, a bartender at a casino near Tucson, AZ. He has a special drink he's invented and the magazine did an article about him and a few other bartenders around the country who have their own drinks.

Talk abut a dream shoot. I shot for Expedia.com, covered an area from St. Augustine, Florida, to Los Angeles, California. It was great, I felt like a tourist. Had to share a couple images from the east coast to the west.

Banner Health

Recently finished a nice gig for Banner Health. I photographed around 100 of their buildings around Arizona. I love gigs like this, I got to drive from Southern to Northern Arizona photographing their properties along the way. I had a great time. Here's a few of my favorites.
